Here is another Rule to ponder
March Question - A player plays a provisional ball from the teeing ground. He discovers his original ball out of bounds and cannot find the provisional ball. He must return to the tee and put another ball into play. How many strokes will he be playing? 3 or 5 or 7??
.....the answer will be supplied in the next newsletter.
February Question - In stroke play, a competitor searches for his ball for three minutes, finds a ball and plays it, then discovers it was a wrong ball. He returns to the area from which the wrong ball was played and resumes the search for his ball. How much time is he allowed??
Answer .....If you said the golfer is allowed their full 5 minutes you are correct. Just remember the penalty strokes that have to be tacked on for playing the wrong ball.
About What is Happening Right Now
From Don Smith, Past President
Members of the golf course executive have been meeting with representatives of the City throughout the off season to discuss our financial situation and how the City may be able to assist us. The City has been doing a review of the golf course and Communiplex operations and will be providing a report in the near future with their recommendations and proposals. The City is taking a supportive and positive view of the golf course and its future, and our meetings have been productive.
Don Bilyk met with Adam Homes, the City’s Director of Planning and Public Works, about the retention pond/storm water drainage plan which should help to alleviate our present water woes. The idea is to tie into the City’s storm drainage system and utilize our ponds for water retention which should be of mutual benefit. This would likely involve excavating some of the ponds to accommodate a greater volume of water. Don was informed the City will have a consultant and surveyors out to create a plan that should be complete by the fall of 2010, and construction to follow in the future.
As most people are aware, the City has also been renovating the Communiplex with work on the kitchen facilities to start soon. In addition to structural improvements, the renovations include work on the washroom facilities, patio as well as to other public areas and should create a fresh and updated venue to enjoy after a round of golf.
